32 towers. Multiple partners. One shared mission: Connecting underserved communities.
Reliable connectivity is more than a convenience. It is an essential resource that connects students to education, families to important services, businesses to new opportunities, and communities to the world around them.
We are proud to have played a key role in bringing that connectivity to life through Pinal County, Arizona’s Final Mile 5G Wireless Internet Project, a transformative infrastructure initiative designed to expand broadband access to underserved rural communities.
While the project required significant technology and infrastructure investment, its success depended on something equally important: bringing all the right people, partners, and resources together to make it happen.
Bridging the Digital Divide
The need for reliable internet access became especially apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic, when students and families across rural Pinal County faced challenges accessing online education and essential resources.
In response, Pinal County and the Pinal County School Superintendent’s Office partnered to develop a solution that would leverage existing fiber infrastructure and extend connectivity to communities that had historically lacked reliable internet access.
The result was the Pinal County Final Mile Project, an initiative that brought together public agencies, technology providers, construction teams, and community partners to make expanded connectivity a reality.
The Power of Integration: Bringing Every Piece Together
Large-scale infrastructure projects involve much more than equipment and installation. They require coordination across multiple organizations, specialized teams, technologies, schedules, and project milestones.
We were proud to serve as the system integrator for the Pinal County Final Mile Project, helping bring all participating partners together and ensuring the many moving pieces worked toward a common goal.
From coordinating stakeholders and managing project timelines to keeping teams aligned and deadlines on track, we played a critical role in maintaining project momentum and helping move the initiative from planning to completion.
Successful integration means understanding how every component contributes to the bigger picture. It means anticipating challenges, facilitating communication, maintaining accountability, and ensuring that individual teams are working together rather than in silos.
For a project of this scale, that coordination was essential. This demonstrates the value of experience project integration and execution in delivering complex telecommunications infrastructure.
32 Towers. One Connected Community.
The completed project includes 32 strategically located 5G radio towers throughout Pinal County, extending wireless internet service to rural areas and helping address longstanding connectivity gaps.
The initiative brought together multiple organizations, including Pinal County, the Pinal County School Superintendent’s Office, Doege Development, AZ Builders, Enterprise Network Solutions, Nokia, as well as many other crucial partners.
It was a true team effort, demonstrating what can be accomplished when organizations align around a shared vision and work together toward a common objective.
An Impact That Goes Beyond Internet Access
While expanding broadband connectivity was the primary goal, the impact of the Final Mile Project extends far beyond internet access.
Improved connectivity creates opportunities for:
- Education: Giving students greater access to online curriculum, teachers, tutors, and educational resources.
- Healthcare: Supporting access to telemedicine and virtual healthcare services.
- Public Safety: Helping strengthen emergency management and communication capabilities.
- Economic Development: Connecting local businesses to new customers, resources, and opportunities.
- Community Services: Improving access to government services and other essential resources.
For rural communities, these connections can open doors that were previously difficult to reach.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating
In October 2026, Pinal County and the Pinal County School Superintendent’s Office celebrated the project’s completion with ribbon-cutting ceremonies in Mammoth and San Tan Valley.
The milestone represented years of planning, funding, coordination, and collaboration among numerous organizations committed to improving connectivity throughout the county.
We’re honored to have contributed to an initiative that will help create opportunities for students, families, businesses, and residents for years to come.
Connecting the Pieces. Delivering the Results.
At Fortress Solutions, we understand that successful infrastructure projects require more than technology. They require leadership, coordination, accountability, and the ability to bring complex initiatives together.
The Pinal County Final Mile Project is a powerful example of what happens when the right partners are aligned and every piece of the project works toward a common goal.
Bringing people, technology, and infrastructure together to make connections that matter.
